Dinazzano Po Spa

Railway Company, Railway Yard & Logistics Platform

The purpose of the company is the rail transport of goods to and from the territory of the Emilia Romagna Region and shunting services in the main railway stations of the Region. Together with rail transport, the aim of Dinazzano Po SpA is the direct management of the railway freight yards located in the province of Reggio Emilia and more precisely Dinazzano Scalo, 130,000 m2 of surface area, in the heart of the ceramic district of Sassuolo and located in the Municipality of Casalgrande (RE) and San Giacomo 13,000 m2, located in the Municipality of Guastalla (RE) in the lower Reggio Emilia area, serving the steel industry and a pool of small and medium-sized companies with different activities.

Dinazzano PO SpA is established in 12/04/2002 by merging:

  • Reggio Emilia Transport Consortium company, which was in charge of the operations of Reggio/Ciano and Guastalla/Reggio/Sassuolo railway lines beside the management of the Dinazzano railway goods yard;
  • Ferrovie Emilia Romagna Srl, which was operating the railway lines: Parma/Guastalla Suzzara, Suzzara/Ferrara, Bologna/Portomaggiore, Casalecchio/Vignola and Ferrara/Codigoro.

DINAZZANO PO SPA starts then to operate by introducing significant innovations in the railway logistics, combining traction services acquired by the Railway Companies with additional logistics and terminalisation services, in order to provide “door to door” full goods packages to its customers. New railway connections with  the port of Ravenna are also added, which, due to its proximity to the ceramic district, was previously only served by road transport services. Additional rail way connections with the ports of Genoa, Livorno and La Spezia follow joining the historical links with Germany, France and other main European markets. Afterwards, a small goods yard is opened in San Giacomo di Guastalla (RE), allowing the company to serve a major manufacturing steel company. At Dinazzano railway station the traffic volume has increased from 1,700,000 tons in 2001 to over 3.500.000 tons in 2019, reaching approximately 3,000,000 tons per year in recent years. In Guastalla San Giacomo railway yard about 500.000 tons/year are terminalized. The Company has gained significant experience over the years by organizing and collaborating in the organization of traction and shunting services. It also played a key role on the commercial front, acquiring new traffics and customers by expanding its operations to Villa Opicina and Brennero.
